Abel Dushimimana MD, MPH, PhD is
an Associate Professor at the National University of Rwanda’s School of
Public Health. He hold's a medical degree awarded by the National
University of Rwanda in September 1970, as well as three degrees from
the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, including a Diploma of
Hygiene--Public and Social Hygiene, a Diploma of Hygiene--Academic and
University Hygiene, and a Doctorate in Public Health and Nutrition
awarded in 1982. Dr. Dushimimana also holds a Diploma in Superior
Specialized Studies (DESS) in Management of Health Projects in
Developing Contexts from the University of Bordeaux 2 in France.
Dr. Dushimimana’s career has been oriented towards teaching and
academic research and he previously served the National University of
Rwanda as Director of the University Center of Public Health and as
Director of the School of Public Health and Nutrition. From
1996-1998, Dr. Dushimimana served as Rwandan Ambassador and from
2002-2004 he served as Rwanda’s Minister of Health.
Professor Dushimimana’s primary areas of public health interest include
nutrition, HIV/AIDS, sanitation, and integrated rural
development. He has been highly active in conducting evaluation
research in all of these sectors.
