Joseph
Ntaganira, MD, DTM, MPH, is currently Head of the Department of
Epidemiology at the National University of Rwanda’s School of Public
Health. During his more than 20 years of professional experience, Dr.
Ntagainra has gained extensive knowledge of medical practice and the
implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of health district programs
in sub-Saharan African countries. Dr. Ntaganira served as District
Medical Officer for the Ministry of Health in Burundi. He also served
as Project Coordinator for HealthNet International in a primary health
care project for Somali and Ethiopians refugees in Djibouti. He has
also 5 years of experience teaching pulmonary disease and epidemiology
at the Medical School in the National University of Rwanda. In
addition, he has 5 years of training/teaching experience working with
the Rwandan Ministry of Health in Continuing Education in various
public health topics for health district medical personnel. His areas
of interest cover Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS programs, program
monitoring and evaluation, maternal and child health, orphans and
vulnerable youth and adherence to antiretroviral treatments. Current
research is on indicators for adherence to antiretroviral treatments
and psychosocial support to orphans and vulnerable children though a
community-based adult mentorship intervention in Gikongoro Province,
Rwanda. Dr. Joseph Ntaganira is certified in respiratory disease,
tropical medicine, Public Health and epidemiology. He is fluent in
French, English, Kirundi and Kinyarwanda.
